WM has purchased Green Earth, a Virginia hauler and recycler, in another sign of the company’s return to more acquisition spending this quarter.

The Harrisonburg-based company announced the transaction on Thursday in a letter to customers.

“WM is the premier waste services provider in the County and has been servicing our area for over 20 years,” states the letter, which is co-signed by Green Earth owner and President Victoria Simmons and WM Senior District Manager Stuart Snead. “WM was chosen because we are confident that they are the company most capable of providing the same safe and superior service you deserve.”

According to an archived version of Green Earth’s website, the company has been operating since 2001 with accounts in Harrisonburg, Fishersville, Waynesboro, Woodstock, Staunton and “the entire Shenandoah Valley area.” Green Earth’s services include residential and commercial collection, container rentals and recycling. The company’s website said its MRF accepted materials such as “cardboard, concrete, paper, plastic, wood, asphalt and shingles.”

WM’s acquisition spending had been muted since its 2020 purchase of Advanced Disposal Services, but executives recently previewed plans to ramp back up. The company also completed the much larger acquisition of Indiana-based Ray’s Trash Service this week.
