Dive Brief:

• Waste Management announced a joint venture to develop a regional landfill with commissioners in Randolph County, North Carolina.
• Waste Management has agreed to operate the county's transfer station in 2015, until the completion of the new landfill. 
• ​The waste giant will also pay $1 million to the county every year in addition to making a one-time contribution totaling $750,000 to the county animal shelter.

Both entities are working on writing a franchise agreement. After the agreement is finished, but before the contract is finalized, the commissioners will vote on the contract and schedule a public hearing.
