Dive Insight:
In May, Advanced Disposal opened a new CNG fueling station in Detroit. The company also added 56 CNG trucks to its fleet.
Sam Caramagno, the District Manager for Waste Management, said that the company expects to convert a total of 70 vehicles in its Detroit fleet to CNG within the next couple of years. A typical CNG truck can operate for 10 to 12 hours on one fill-up. That means drivers can potentially navigate an entire day without returning back to the station for a refill.
Waste Management has made a commitment to lower emissions by 15% and increase its fleet’s fuel efficiency by 15% in 2020. In April, the company transitioned half of its fleet in Chico, CA to CNG, and in June, it opened a new CNG fueling station in Melbourne, FL.
David Steiner, the president and CEO of Waste Management, met with T. Boone Pickens in June to discuss increasing the amount of CNG trucks on the road, while pushing for a broad federal and state energy policy.
