Dive Brief:
- TruStar Energy, a company that builds compressed natural gas stations, announced it will expand existing CNG properties for two clients, Rumpke Consolidated Cos. and Modern Disposal Services.
- TruStar initially designed and constructed the fuel stations for both waste firms and recent fleet expansion on behalf of both companies has necessitated increased capacity.
- Cincinnati, OH-based Rumpke is adding fueling posts for almost 30 trucks, while Modern Disposal, with headquarters in Lewiston, NY, is adding a compressor and fuel posts to accommodate 20 trucks.
Dive Insight:
After the project is complete, Rumpke will operate several hundred CNG vehicles and Modern Disposal will have 90 CNG trucks in its fleet.
Many waste haulers are converting their fleets to CNG and building their own stations to fuel the expanding fleets. Companies are adopting CNG for benefits that include lower emissions compared to diesel and substantial reduction in fuel costs — CNG can save companies as much as 50% compared traditional fuel.
Cities such as Denver, CO and Woodbine, NJ are also building their own CNG fueling stations to fuel sanitation fleets. On the state level, Advanced Disposal in Pennsylvania received two state grants to convert its fleet to CNG.
