- The president and CEO of Waste Management, David Steiner, met with chairman and CEO of BP Capital T. Boone Pickens to discuss their mutual desire to increase the numbers of compressed natural gas-fueled fleets, and to push for a broad state and federal energy policy.
- Both Steiner and Pickens want incentives that will compel truck manufacturers to construct CNG fleets with greater fuel efficiency at a lower cost.
- Steiner said by pumping CNG into commercial vehicles across the country, the nation's dependence on oil can be diminished. According to Steiner, an energy policy can get the the transition in motion at a faster pace than without government backing.
