Dive Brief:
- Rizzo Environmental Services, a hauler based in Sterling Heights, MI and part of the New York City-based private equity firm Kinderhook Industries, acquired Canton, MI-based Canton Waste Recycling.
- Rizzo will take over waste and recycling services in Canton Township, gaining almost 30,000 customers as a result of its purchase. The current contract with the county ends in 2020; the deal is worth $3.3 million per year.
- The deal brings Rizzo’s total number of customers to over 410,000 in 39 communities in Southeast Michigan.

Chuck Rizzo, the CEO of Rizzo Environmental said, "With today’s acquisition, we will now be able to base trucks closer to our customers in western Wayne County."
In January, Rizzo bought Romulus, MI-based Nelson Paper Recycling.
The city of Detroit made a decision to privatize its sanitation services and in November 2013 awarded a new solid waste and recycling contract to two haulers: Rizzo Environmental and Advanced Disposal. The five-year agreement covers 247,000 customers, divided into half; each waste service provider services its designated area, or zone.
