Republic Services confirmed it acquired a pair of longtime Wisconsin hauling companies, effective May 1.
The purchase includes Town & Country Sanitation and Peterson Sanitation. The two related companies provide a range of residential, commercial and roll-off collection services in portions of Southwest and South Central Wisconsin and Northeast Iowa.
The companies provide waste and recycling service to an estimated 100 cities, towns and villages in the region. Federal records from 2024 show that Town & Country operated 50 vehicles in Wisconsin. Peterson operated a combined 26 vehicles in Wisconsin and Iowa.
Town and Country started out in 1990 with one truck, according to its website. It won its first big municipal contract in Boscobel, Wisconsin, in 1992 and went on to set up its headquarters in that city. The company later built a transfer station in the village of Lone Rock in 2005.
Both companies were owned by Doug Enke, who was not available for comment on Thursday.
The deal adds to Republic’s existing hauling and post-collection assets in Wisconsin and the broader Midwest region.
Overall, the company reported spending $826 million on acquisitions in Q1, the bulk of which went to its purchase of North Carolina-based Shamrock Environmental. Republic also recently purchased Pittsburgh MRF operator RecycleSource. During an earnings call last week, executives said they aim to spend at least $1 billion on acquisitions this year.
This marks at least the second waste industry acquisition in Wisconsin this year, following GFL Environmental’s purchase of LRS’ assets in the state. GFL has been among Wisconsin’s most active acquirers over the past five years, including a string of tuck-in deals that came after it bought a large divestiture package from WM in 2020.
