Dive Brief:
- The American Council on Renewable (ACORE) has released a report detailing the future of renewable energy technology in the United States.
- The council says that unless universal policies regarding solid waste and energy are developed and implemented nationwide, the United States will not be capable of utilizing resources to its capacity. The production of energy-to-waste (WTE) markets is far behind those found in Europe and Asia.
- ACORE advised that since creating WTE facilities takes an extended period of time—around five years from start to finish—incentives should be established that firms can access once initial contracts are signed with municipalities.
Dive Insight:
The council expects more waste-to-energy (WTE) plants to be built during the next five years. According to the report, in seven years, six WTE plants have increased their capabilities to include added production potential and energy generation. That growth created 2,540 additional tons to the volume produced daily, including 54 MW of electricity.
