Dive Insight:
Red River was founded in 1953 and is now a third generation family operation with service in six states. This latest deal continues a pattern of Nashville acquisitions within the past year which includes Welch Disposal and Planet Green Sanitation.
The company was also active with acquisitions in Iowa last year and sold select non-core South Dakota assets to Waste Connections earlier this year. Red River was in the running for a five-year contract in Jackson, TN, but ultimately lost out to Waste Management despite coming in with a lower bid and making a special website to highlight its credentials.
Plans for continued acquisitions are no secret and the company even has a page for prospective sellers on its website. Red River says it has partnered with private equity firm Ironwood Capital and is currently targeting opportunities with annual revenues ranging from $500,000 to $10 million.
