Dive Brief:

• Novus Pacific LLC announced plans to build a state-of-the-art waste-to-energy (WTE) plant in the Port of Morrow port authority in Boardman, OR.
• The firm expects to break ground on the $20 million project after the necessary financials are finalized, most likely in late November. Novus anticipates the facility will be operational within a a year after construction begins.
• The biocatalytic digester will process around 442,000 tons of materials capable of generating 987,000 mm BTUs of biogas, 237,000 gallons of liquid organic fertilizer concentrate, and 86 million gallons of clean water annually. 

Dive Insight:

This project is Novus Pacific’s first foray into creating a full-scale renewable energy facility. The (almost) half-a-million tons of waste that the plant is expected  to process every year consist primarily of potato and onion waste, with some manure from a local dairy farm thrown in for good measure.

The waste materials used daily are as follows: 120 tons of onion materials, 275 tons of potato peelings, and 10,000 gallons of manure. These are expected to generate $9.7 million in revenue every year.
