Dive Insight:
RES has now been in business for more than 50 years. The company bills itself as Michigan's "only single point of contact" for full-service waste and recycling due to a merger with Royal Oak Recycling in 2013. Last year, the company acquired Canton Waste Recycling which brought in more than 30,000 new customers. This latest deal builds on that model of strengthening their local presence.
"The Duncan family has built a strong company with a great reputation," RES CEO Chuck Rizzo said, as reported by the Livingston Daily. "Like Rizzo, they are a Michigan-based family company priding themselves on providing their customers with excellent service."
Recent efforts by RES to win a new five-year $17.4 collection contract in Flint were unsuccessful. While their bid was the lowest, and had the company was supported by the mayor, members of the City Council were skeptical for a variety of reasons. The council recently passed a resolution to renew Flint's contract with Republic Services instead.
