Dive Brief:
- Merging became an industry-wide trend this week as Red River Waste Solutions acquired Glenwood, IA-based Marvin Konfrst Trash Service, and PDC Services Inc. acquired Groveland, IL-based Melton Trucking Service.
- Red River's acquisition was a predictable decision, as the company has already bought Steve Konfrst Trash Service and Mel Konfrst Trash Service earlier this year. The newest deal with Marvin Konfrst Trash Service was made for an undisclosed amount.
- PDC's decision to purchase Melton Trucking was made for the company to expand services to businesses in the Peoria, IL area. "We are very pleased to acquire this great family-owned operation to be blended in with our PDC operation," said PDC Vice President of Sales Matt Coulter.
Dive Insight:
Merges and acquisitions continue unabated in waste and recycling, partly because there are good deals to be made. K2 Waste Solutions just bought its third waste hauler since the company formed in June, while Mid America Recycling re-started an old brand new firms that it bought. Additionally, Deptford, NJ-based Gold Medal Services bought most of the assets of two smaller firms in June — Casworth Enterprises Inc., and Blue River Resources LLC.
