- Prince George County, MD announced it had appointed consultants Gershman, Brickner & Bratton (GBB) to assist the county with its acquisition of a waste processing facility and waste-to-energy public/private infrastructure.
- The county plans to execute the solid waste management system as it prepares for the closure of the current county site, the Brown Station Road Sanitary landfill in Upper Marlboro, MD.
- The county deposited 350,000 tons of waste at the Brown Station site in 2010; the landfill expects to reach capacity in 2020.

GBB said it intends to find one or more facilities that are capable of recovering recyclable materials and transforming municipal solid waste, organics, biosolids, and construction & demolition waste into commodities including solid, liquid or gaseous fuels, steam, and power.
