- California-based Lytx has released new updates to its DriveCam video telematics safety program and other technologies which will be released next year, as reported by Fleet Owner.
- The DriveCam can now detect rolling stops and rolling stability incidents. Video of the incident will automatically be captured so the behavior can be reviewed with drivers.
- Lytx has also announced a new Mobile Fleet Tracking solution, which allows users to see live details about fleet locations on any mobile device, and a redesigned cloud-based workspace for DriveCam Enterprise users.

The DriveCam program is used by more than 600,000 commercial and government drivers. A device mounted on the windscreen has sensors to detect more than 70 driving behaviors and capture video as needed.
As seen earlier this year when a driver crashed through a highway barrier in Miami, the DriveCam video can be crucial in understanding how incidents happen. In addition to providing details on crashes, the cameras can be used to improve driver behavior or possibly exonerate them in some situations. More waste companies are moving to install the technology and it is starting to become a standard feature in new collection vehicles.
According to the American Trucking Associations, about 25% of the $9.5 billion spent on safety each year is used for technology such as video recorders. Recent data from the Solid Waste Association of North America data showing that 60 of the 98 industry-related fatalities between July 2015 and June 2016 were members of the public further reinforces the need for safer driving. This type of technology is becoming an increasingly popular way to try and make that happen.
