Dive Brief:
- Lockheed Martin announced a deal with Concord Blue, a waste gasification developer, to manufacture the developer’s “Reformer” waste-to-energy (WTE) technology.
- The Reformer transforms waste into different fuels and energy through the use of conversion technology.
- Concord Blue touts the technology as a sustainable resource capable of producing energy sources like electricity, syngas, hydrogen and liquid fuels. The company said byproducts generated by the technology include water, ash and heat.
Dive Insight:
The technology consists of a closed-loop system, supported by the by-products it produces. It can generate its own electricity, eliminating the need for fuel from an alternate source.
In 2013, the two corporations formed an agreement; Lockheed Martin would leverage its strengths to integrate Concord Blue’s technology across a global WTE market. The defense contractor cited advanced waste conversion as an emerging technology. The WTE system addressed waste disposal, energy security and climate control issues.
