Dive Brief:
- K2 Waste Solutions has established a new waste collection operation and subsidiary, Killian Calderon Disposal, in partnership with Alvaro Calderon, to boost service to the Corpus Christi, TX market.
- K2, which launched services earlier this year, called the operation the first of several "cold-start" models to generate growth and market expansion.
- Bill Killian, K2 co-founder, told Waste 360: "Alvaro Calderon has worked in this industry in Corpus for nearly 35 years, he knows nearly everyone you need to know to get started."
Dive Insight:
Another day, another hauler expanding operations to reach more customers in the industry.
For K2, growth has been quick. Since launching recently, the company has been actively expanding, purchasing Dayton, TX-based LT's Garbage Service, Phoenix-based Greenline Waste and Recycling, and Menomonee Falls, WI-based Lake Country Disposal.
K2 is focusing on mid-sized markets, haulers in niche markets, and other smaller scale firms. This trend of mergers acquiring smaller waste and recycling companies has become a movement across the industry, with companies such as JBC Group and Mountain Waste & Recycling Inc. reflecting similar structures.
