Dive Brief:
- Global Clean Energy Inc. (GCE) is a waste-to-energy (WTE) firm specializing in transforming waste materials such as tires, plastic, and metal into resources using technology.
- Transforming tires into energy diverts the materials from landfills and can be used to create fuel.
- Steven Mann, the chief development officer at GCE, said the future of waste-to-energy looks bright as new technologies introduced are expanding the ability for companies to convert waste into energy.
Dive Insight:
Texas-based GCE established itself as a leader of innovation in the WTE market by using tires to produce fuel. In October 2014, the company announced a partnership with Liberty Tire Recycling that would transform Liberty’s tire scraps into feedstock. The project is expected to convert 800,000 tires into 1.5 million gallons of fuel annually. GCE plans to build additional facilities in order to replicate the process around the country, as reported in October.
