Dive Insight:
Covanta solidified its partnership with Turning Earth in October of 2013. Turning Earth will own and operate the plant, while Covanta will provide the organic waste from its customers. The state of Connecticut is requiring that commercial institutions that produce food waste dispose of it at an anaerobic digestion plant or recycling facility. Currently, there are three plants in the state, none of which are in operation.
"Covanta's organics partnerships are expressly designed to supply organics recycling services to commercial and municipal customers that are looking to develop comprehensive, sustainable waste management plans," Stephen Diaz, Covanta's vice-president of strategic services said.
