Dive Brief:

• Cleanergy announced the launch of its GasBox, a new methane-capture system created to generate electricity and heat from methane from closed landfills.
• GasBox can extract methane from older landfills, which is generally difficult to capture due to the low-grade methane produced at closed sites. 
• A majority of the biogas is created using food waste and plant materials at landfills, in addition to manure and waste water. Energy created on-site is being used to heat and power buildings and equipment.

Cleanergy is based in Sweden and focuses on development, manufacturing and deployment of energy within the solar and gas industry. Adding solar arrays to closed landfill sites is giving some sites a new lease on life, while generating power for surrounding communities.
