Dive Brief:

• A garbage truck collided with an oncoming passenger train in Independence, Missouri.
• The driver of the truck drove through the railroad crossing, disregarding the flashing lights and crossing barrier that was in position. An Amtrak train, filled with passengers, barreled down the tracks, knocking the truck into a ditch.
• No casualties were reported in this incident and the driver is expected to recover.

Dive Insight:

The driver was seemingly confused as he had seen a stopped freight train but failed to see the passenger train approaching as well. Police say he's lucky to be alive.
