Dive Brief:
- A new waste-to-energy facility has been announced for Lowell, Michigan. It is owned by Lowell Energy AD LLC, (LEAD) an energy company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- A biodigester will process 90 tons of livestock waste every day. The waste is from a local farm, and will include food waste, oil, grease and fat.
- The project is estimated to coat $5.4 million, with additional costs pushing the figure up to around $6 million. Construction on the plant will start in May and is expected to be complete by September.

This facility will become one of around 10 commercial anaerobic digesters located in the state. In 2008, Michigan enacted the Renewable Portfolio Standard, requiring cities which have municipal electrical systems to get 10% of their power from renewable energy sources by 2015.
